Zion Natl Park, UT – Friday May 31, 1950

Another great day at Zion.

I got up at 5:15 a.m. to catch the 6:00 a.m. bus up the valley.  This gives me an hour and a half start on most of the people who visit the park.  The traffic into the valley gets really started about 7:00 a.m.  My goals was to spend a couple of hours on the trail heading towards the East Rim.  The east rim trail follows the heavily used Observation Point trail for the first two miles than cuts off to the very seldom used east rim trail.  As an example I’d guess 3-400 people climb up to Observation Point most days and the east rim trail sees 10-20 people. This year I saw 6 people from 7:00 to 11:00 a.m and in past years I’ve spent of 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m and seen 2 people.  Zion is a big place and any place off the main trails is quite.  I went to GPS 37 16.498N 112 55.547W, this is worth looking at in Google Earth however here are some screen shots.

By the way the elevation is 5511.

Here are a couple of pictures from the last couple of days.
Hank and I got this picture the other morning.
Had to have a least one sunset taken from our campsite.
Have not idea what flower this is.

This seed pod is at least 4 inches across, a half hour later it was gone 😦 .

Think it got up to 92 on Friday, Saturday’s forecast is 94 and Sunday 100.  See you later.

PS. CONGRATULATIONS Stine

Zion Natl Park – Tuesday May 28, 2013

First night of vacation, rest stop just north of Eugene Oregon. Left home at 5:00 on Thursday.

We got to Richard & Vicki’s at the regular time 6:30. Had great time Friday and Saturday getting to see Richard’s 65 Chevy pickup and his talent of making really cool men out of train rail spikes.
We left Sunday morning at 7:00 and got to Cedar City, Utah at 8:00 pm 526 miles. It was a nice drive across Nevada, east on 50 and south on 93. Spent he night in a Home Depot parking let next to Walmart.
Got to Zion in an hour and set up in site B44 right on the river.
This is my birthday/father’s day gift from TA, I’m going to make sure it gets a lot of usage this year and in the future.
Note the rain fly in the middle of the sun cover. Yes on the assembly instructions it’s called a rain fly.

It even has it’s own cooler, the bad picture above shows it from the side with the last picture showing the inside.

Started this on my cellphone and updating it from my IPad. I got a phone app which makes my phone a wiFi hotspot.

That’s it for today my glass is empty.

Home – Monday September 23, 2013

I didn’t close out vacation.

Saturday we drove 552 miles in 12.5 hours coming across Chinook Pass.  As a footnote Chinook pass should get some snow tonight.  We used only 303 gallons of gas. We usually use between 400 and 450 gallons when we venture out into eastern Utah and/or northern Arizona.

I know change is usually good, however Google has changed the structure of photo sharing again.  They want to force you to share through Google Plus and all I want to do is to allow sharing through a know link.  I found this link information last night and tonight I’ve looked to 5 minutes and still can not figure out how to find the albums URL.  I want to add the URL to this post so only people who have been to this blog can see the pictures.

4 minutes later, I found it.

Hopefully this is the link to a short photo album of our Fall 2013 vacation.

Vacation Prep – Monday April 30, 2012

I’m starting to get ready for vacation.

On Saturday I changed the oil and filter on the motorhome.   It only had 1100 miles on it however vacation will run between 3200 and 4500 miles which would really push the time between changes.

This year’s vacation will have a theme, “Strawberry Daiquiris”.   Sunday I checked out a small drink mixer Jean purchased last year.  The picture is not very good however the mixer worked great.
This picture linked the first time from Google Albums using “embed image” and “image only no link (checked)”.

Vacation – Friday September 2, 2011

First day of fall vacation.  We left home yesterday at 5:00 pm and drove until 11:15 to a rest spot along the Columbia River I-84.  Today we slept in and did not hit the road until 6:30 am.   We are now at Massacre Rock State Park in south east Idaho. We got here at 6:30. It is clear and warm.  We drove 560 miles today all in sun shine.  Will be here tomorrow and leave for Zion Sunday morning.  We’ll get to Zion on Monday.
