Quartzsite Flat, MT – Wednesday, August 19, 2026

We stopped early today. Got a late start and the next rest stop is 87 miles away which would make it close to 6:00 p.m. plus and I think I’d be really tired by the time we got there.

This is how I am setting up the Starlink while we are traveling. I carry a shower mat to use when I am putting on my waders and wading boots. It happens to be big enough for the Starlink base to set on and not scratch the paint of the pickup’s hood.

It is warm today 92 in the coach however we are high enough in the mountains that it should cool off this evening.

When we got gas today it was $4.49 vers the $5.07 we paid for gas at home.

This is the first time we have stayed at the Quartz Flat rest stop heading East. This side of the highway also has a campground with 28 sites however the sites are all back ins. There is a one lane tunnel under the highway to the campsites on the other side which has several pull through sites. I think the tunnel clearance is 13 feet and we are a good 12 plus. Don’t think I want to chance it. We have 251 miles tomorrow to Palisades Campground.

Cabela’s, Post Falls, ID – Tuesday Aug 18, 2026

We are Cabela’s in Post Falls ID on our way to Montana for a few weeks of sun and fishing.

Had one excitement today, just as we reach the high point of Highway 18 the coach started making a high pitched dash alarm and an Aladdin lamp lite up on the dash after a minute it quit so I kept moving. At the next rest stop I got out the chassie owners manual and found out it is a low oil pressure warning light. I checked the oil yesterday so I figured it was OK. I checked it again and it was down a 1/2 quart the same place as yesterday, added a half quart and we moved on.

Thinking and driving I have one of the dash options set so it shows Avg Mpg and I think the dash as an option to show Oil Pressure in this spot. At the next rest stop I got the manual out and figured out how to change from AvgMpg to Oil Pressure. Oil Pressure is right at 30 psi so things should be OK.

It is a warm evening 91 in the coach however we were able to get a parking lane so we can have the bedroom slide out to night. We have a lamp post on the bedroom slide side and the coach next to use on the other side of the lamp post has a slide out so we should be good.

Cabela’s is really nice to travelers, they have a 48 hour stay limit and there is also people here. Eight coaches and trailers here tonight.

By the way, leveled the coach on the first try

Ranger Creek, Wa – Sunday July 26, 2026

Not too many people left here after a busy weekend. This was the annual 50 mile and 50k – 25k run. The 50 mile runs up to Suntop and then up to Coral Pass and back. The fastest time was 8 hours 24 minutes and the longest was 16 hours 13 minutes on the 50 miler.

277 plus runners and the support people ment a large crowd with lots of people here Friday night. I have to say although numerous people wanted to share our camp site the whole airstrip area was sure clean this morning. No garbage or even pieces of paper on the ground. We like to camp by ourselves so it was a bit irritating when people wanted to move in close and I did yell at four boys who came into our campsite and wanted to carry off the picnic table we have our BBQ sitting on. Their excuse was they were camped in the middle of an old no longer used road bed and they didn’t have a picnic table. That was their problem put the table back.

Ranger Creek, WA – Monday July 20, 2026

We are here for two weeks or so.

Only one plane today

The weather report.

Here is the hole in our heater hose which got us stuck on our way home from Montana. I attached the new hose to this end and snaked the new hose through the engine.

Quartz Flats BLM Campground, Superior, Mt – Friday June 19, 2026

Pointed towards the big house today

This BLM or Forest Service campground is right on Hwy 90 is a great stop over spot on the trip home.

Should also have good weather today.

It is 7:45 pm and we are now at Quartz Flats in pull through site A10. We are in the trees and I thought I would give the Starlink a try.

Here is the hole in the trees.

I am sitting here watching U-tube videos.

After 35 minutes this is the coverage map I have and it is good enough for video :-).

By the way sunset is 9:40 pm. We are on the western edge of mountain time.
