Sparks, NV – Wednesday November 8, 2017

It is a good thing we did the long drive and got here yesterday.  The weather has moved in with some snow and a lot of wind in the Sierra Mountains. It looks like it will be Friday, Saturday or Sunday before the weather clears in the Sierra’s and then we get to deal with the Siskiyou’s.

While I was eating lunch the other day I noticed this on the jar of pickles I was eating.
Notice these pickles are a product of India.
Here is the front of the jar.
Farman’s pickles was started in Enumclaw, Washington.  We lived in Enumclaw until I was eight years old and I can remember the smell of pickles and chlorine as we swam in Pete’s Pool.  The main road at that edge of town is still called Pickle Factory Road.
Farman’s was purchased by Nalley’s of Tacoma and now it looks like several other companies after that.  By the way they still taste the same as they did 60 year’s ago.

Sparks, NV – Tuesday November 7, 2017

Our original plan was to drive to Lodi, Ca on Tuesday and then on to Sparks on Wednesday.  Winter weather is moving in Wednesday morning so we decided to drive all the way to Sparks on Tuesday, 500 miles. We were up at 5:00 a.m. and moving at 5:30 a.m. and got to Richard and Vickie’s at 4:30 p.m., I was tired.

This is our campsite for a couple of days.
They live on a hill and it takes a couple of blocks to get level.

CATHEDRAL GORGE STATE PARK, NV – FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 1, 2017

We ventured out today exploring two state parks northeast of here.  Echo Canyon is 12 miles off the main road Hwy 93 and Spring Valley is 19 miles.

Echo Canyon has a new area about 2 years old which has water/electric/and sewing.  Looked to have three bars of cell service however I don’t know if has the same data problem that Cathedral Gorge was having (this is being written on Thursday September 7) will we were there.  We could get a data connection for 10 to 15 minutes in the morning and a couple minutes in the evening.  Jean was only getting about 20% of her daily Jack pictures.

Here is new campground area.

Than we drove onto Spring Valley State Park, it has zero cell service.

Most of the campsite were small for our motorhome, but there were a few good sites.

Connors Pass, NM – Rest Stop by Hayspur Fish Hatchery, ID – April 9, 2017

Today’s drive.

Yes these pictures are very much the same.    They are both pictures of Harry driving on ICE and SNOW on the 9th of April.
This is one of the many passes on Hwy 50, we are just East of Ely, NV.

Driving up the pass their was a semi stopped in the road just before the top of the pass.  I was able to drive around him when I discovered the ice and snow on the road which stopped him.  The road is a 6 to 7% grade and I guess he was going so slow when he got to the ice he was unable to keep moving.

We were early enough to get a spot to stop.  This was a good time for breakfast and wait for the road to clear.   We got to the top at 8:00 a.m. and the first two sand truck came through at 8:10.  They several passes blading the ice and dumping a lot of salt and sand on the road.  By 9:00 the road was melted (about an inch of ice) and the Highway Patrol stopped to say the road was clear going east.

The plan was to spend the night at Hayspur Hatchery Campground, however the campground was closed.  It is a one lane road into the hatchery and campground and with the campground closed I only had limited options to turn around.  I needed up having to unhook the pickup to get turned around.

We ended at a rest stop just down the main road on the way to Sun Valley.

It was cold, 27 degrees in the morning.

Cathedral Gorge State Park, NV – Thursday April 6, 2017

Here is Jack’s 9 month picture.

We did not get as far as we had planned. We were on Hwy 93 just north of I-15 when Richard called to say the wind was blowing in Sparks and peaking at 70 mph.  He was giving us a head’s up for the weekend, it usually takes one to two days for a weather front to get across the state.   We decided to pull into Cathedral Gorge, the campground is in a valley and a good place to set out a storm.  Will be here at least until Sunday. One of the park rangers said the weather should get here late Friday into Saturday.  Jean and I spent almost a week here several years ago setting out a rain storm. I’ll have to look that up in the logbook. It is the year I-15 washed out south of St. George.

In site 13.
By the way Hank loves the cooler temperatures.

Pony Express Rest Stop, Hwy 93 – Monday September 5, 2016

Another night at highway rest stop.  We pulled into a corner so we could have the bedroom slide out.
It is a big parking area out in the middle of nowhere.  Nice and quite p, Two trucks and two cars when we called it a night.
It has some neat art and information about the pony express.

Updated maps 9/9/2016 – Will post maps after I upload data from Inreach.
