At our lunch stop we had to decide if we are going north via I-5 and the Siskiyou’s or out to the coast around the cold weather and possible snow in the mountains. Driving the coach in the snow is one of the things I try to avoid, thus it is out to the coast and an extra 250 miles and an additional day’s travel.
Today’s drive 506 miles.
We left Quartzsite a day early because a weather front is moving in Monday and Tuesday, 40 mph winds with gusts to 50.
Tehachapi is going to get COLD Monday night. At this point we will be long gone. Once we get off the high desert the weather improves.
Today’s drive
We got a spot by an island so we can have the bed slide out tonight.
Monday we will get to Corning, CA and then through the mountains on Tuesday before the snow. What a trip.
Saturday is sure the day to drive through California, 496 miles 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p. m.
It is going to be cold tonight 26 °, we are at 4000 feet. Tomorrow we get to Quartzsite and will stay there until Friday.
Another travel day and the weather is getting warmer.
Also another rest stop for the night.
View out the front window. Focused on getting to the sunshine and quiet of the desert.
Today’s drive 494.
It was a nice drive today, in a 10 minute stretch of road between Stockton and Sacramento I counted 139 semi’s traveling south. Just north of Sacramento counted 202.
Driving west and north, 274 today.
Today was the long drive so we were up early and rolling at 6:00 a.m. Got here at the rest stop just north of Corning at 4:00 p.m. with 490 miles.
Gas pricing Bakersfield: February $3.20. May $2.30
Dunnigan: February $2.94. May $2.54
The only place we had traffic was between Stockton and Sacramento. The traffic in downtown Sacramento was wide open with a little congestion by the airport then wide open again. Monday looks to be 400 miles.
We got an early start out of Quartzsite this morning. We had wheels rolling at 6:00 a.m. I wanted to get north of Joshua Tree National Park and on our way to Barstow before it got hot. I don’t really like to over working the coach by driving in really hot weather. Quartzsite and Palm Spring are going to get back to 100 and Boron is getting to 82.
We got gas at the AZ-CA boarder in February for $2.70 and in May for $1.80.
Here is today’s drive and tonight stopping point the Boron Rest Stop, 296 miles.
Tomorrow will be the long drive to Northern California.
Today was a driving day:
On the road at 6:30 a.m.
Got to Boron, Ca for the night at 4:30 p.m.
495 miles with a tail wind most of the day
We have spent many nights at this rest spot both on our trips south and also going north
Clear sunny day all day long
Wednesday will be 276 miles to Quartzsite
Boron is just north of Edwards Air Force Base.
Not much of a campsite picture but it is a rest stop.
