Presidential Museum & Leadership Library – Monahans Sandhills State Park, Texas – Tuesday October 24, 2017

Moved out of Odessa looking for a nicer place to stay.

The sites are really close but at least it is not a parking lot, site 26.

Before we went looking for a new campsite we went to the Presidential Archives and Leadership Library.
We spent 2 and a half hours reading a lot of the information they have displayed about the presidents and their actions while president.

Painting and a informational plaque for every president.
Paintings of all the First Ladies and a ton of more information.  The focus is how the presidents lead the nation during it’s many difficult times.
This was a cool painting of all the presidents.
Closer look at the right side of the painting.   I know I could have taken a much better pictures.   Anyway, this is a place I’d like to go back to if come back through here.

Odessa, Texas – Monday October 23, 2017

We are in Odessa, got to be someplace.  Only a couple of RV parks in town one full with monthly people, one never returned a call and the review on the third says they give you a case of water when you check in for drinking and cooking.  We are spending the night at the Ector County Exp grounds, flat 20 amp electric.  Tomorrow afternoon we’ll move west of town to a state park, Monahans Sandhills State Park.

Today’s drive

Caballo State Park River Side, NM – Thursday October 19, 2017

Today’s map.
The drive.
In site 74.
If you go to the table area and go to the left you’ll see the river.
Today was the first time we had to go to three Campgrounds to find a site. Stopped at Elephant Butte, they had a couple of sites however they were on steep hills. Caballo Lake sites were all full, we found a place at Caballo River Side which is below the dam an right on the Rio Grande River.

Had a big thunder storm in the evening including a little hail.

Sky City Casino, NM – Wednesday October 18, 2017

We decided to stay one more night because we have not decided which direction to go.  When we leave here we have to go there east or west.  Will decide before we go to bed tonight.

The site we are in is taken tonight so we have to move.  A caravan is coming in this afternoon and they have booked a group of sites so they are together.  Moving to site 35 and the park is charging us $15.00 a night rather than $20.00, that was a nice touch.

The campsite picture, not trees or view but this place has electricity, water, sewer, TV and good WIFI.

The left turn and brake light on the pickup ( while being towed ) quit working a while ago.  I got a test light and while at Lee’s Ferry I figured out the plug on the coach was not putting out any power on this terminal.  I spent a lot of time looking for a fuse panel for the trailer plug and of today still haven’t found one.  Today I crawled under the coach with the intent of following wires back until I got power.

After looking around at the wire bundles with a flashlight I found this wire hanging by one or two strands at each end.

The nickel is to show size.

With the light tester I confirmed one side produces power when the turn signal is on and with a OHM meter the other end goes to the trailer plug. I will get some wire this weekend and fix the problem.

ALBUQUERQUE BALLOON FIESTA – MONDAY OCTOBER 16, 2017

Sunday was the last day of the fiesta unfortunately it was to windy for any of the balloons to go up.

80% of the people in the south RV park left Sunday and the rest of us had to be out by 11:00 a.m. today.

We stopped and did some laundry so we would be set for another two weeks or so.  One of the guys at the Laundromat was washer the balloon field official’s jackets, like 6 large commercial size washers of them.  Jean was talking to him and he gave her two Zebra Launch Director pins.

Today’s drive.

We are back at Sky City Casino 60 miles east of Albuquerque.  We needed to dump, get water and we really didn’t know where we are going next.  Will HAVE to figure out where to go next.  Oh, and also we wanted to see the Acoma Village which is 15 miles south of here.  We’ll do that tomorrow.

Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta – Wednesday October 4, 2017

Today is our first day in Albuquerque and we will be here until the 16th.
The drive today.
We are at the south RV parking with the Escapees Boomer’s group. I think we will have 50 RV’s here for the event.
We are in site B48C-1 right on the edge of what is called the BOX.  This is one of the landing sites south of the takeoff field. Last year we saw a bunch of balloons land in this BOX area.
View out the front window.
Here I am standing in front of the Motorhome looking toward the launch field. Balloons should rise from behind the building on the right side of this picture.
Our campsite, pretty level on a hard seal coat road surface.  This area is an old garbage dump.

Winslow, AZ – Monday October 2, 2017

With a high wind warning up in Winslow, AZ from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. we were up and on the road early.  Up at 5:30 made coffee got the pick hooked up and we were on the road by 6:30 a.m.  I had to take the pickup to the upper area of the campground to find a place where I could hook it up to the motorhome.
Here are some map pictures of the drive.
My guess was the winds were mostly in the 15 to 25 mph out of the west the whole drive, made for a long 200 miles.  We got to the state part at 10:15 and the park ranger said if we wanted to see any of the park we should get at it because it is really going to blow this afternoon.  We had more exciting things planned for the afternoon, laundry.

Tuesday we move to Bluewater Lake State Park in New Mexico for the night, dump and fill with water for our time at the balloon festival.  No internet at Bluewater Lake so posting tomorrow.

Added campsite pictures, in site 47.
