Lees Ferry, AZ – Wednesday September 20, 2017

150 miles to Lees Ferry with a beautiful drive past the Grand Canyon and the Vermillion Cliffs.

Thursday is going to be windy so today is a great day to be moving.

We are in site 37.
I just realized I do not have an IPad photo editing app.  The location marked on the picture is were we stopped while deciding which site to settle into for the night.  We are actually across the road where the blue line passes though a campsite.

The view out the door, our big windows are on the other side of the Motorhome.

Lees Ferry, AZ – Thursday September 22, 2016

We left Sand Hollow at 7:15 this morning, wanted to get on the road before the bad weather moved into the area.  It worked out well at we got here about 10:30 local time.
Here is today’s drive.
Lees Ferry area.

Our campsite, we set in the middle area for a while before moving over to a canyon edge site.

We are in site 41 at $9.00 a night with old guy pass.   We may be here until Wednesday or might move on sooner.
View from my chair in the shade setting next to the motor home is below.

This is looking back towards the campground from the river.

At 8:30 this evening the wind picked up and by 10:00 it was blowing 50 and 60 miles per hour. We put the large slide in around 9:30 and then put the bedroom slide in around 10:00.  The wind was blowing over the bedroom slide topper however the weather app shows rain coming this way and I don’t want rain coming in under the slide topper.  Getting the wind from the driver’s side rear quarter panel and it is sure raising hell with the old satellite dish.  It is designed for wind to come from the front and not the rear.  It is really banging.  10:45 and starting to RAIN big drops. Update at 11:00, rain quit after a few minutes wind is still blowing. 11:21 wind has stopped. Man is it quiet.

We keep a thermometer in the refrigerator to make to easy to keep track of the internal temp.  This afternoon I looked to see what the outside temp was and the refrigerator was at 50 degrees.  We went through this several years ago and I finally figured out that if I shut off all the power to the house side of the motor home for 30-60 seconds the refrigerator will reset it’s self.  I reset the power turned on the internal fans and an hour later the refrigerator was back down to 38 degrees.  Those internal fan can move some air.

I like traveling in warm weather not hot but warm.  One of the advantages is the motor home’s batteries last forever.  This evening we had the TV on using the 12 volt DC to 110 volt AC for several hours and the battery voltage never got off 13.0 volts.  With a light it went to 12.9.

Lees Ferry Natl Park – Thursday June 11, 2015

Today we drove 300 miles to Lees Ferry National Park just below Glen Canyon Dam and the place where people start their trip floating the Grand Canyon.  The drive out from Navajo Lake added a little interest to the trip.  At 5:00 a.m. this morning a THUNDER storm came through the area so there were several places where there was mud across the road.  The highway folks had already been out and bladed the road however in a couple of spot the mud was still at least a 1/2 in thick.  To say the car got dirty would be an understatement.  We stopped at Kayenta to get gas and I could at least get some of the dirt off the windshield so I’d be able to drive the car after we got to the campground.

When we got to Lees Ferry campground both of the river view spots were taken.  We first moved into site 44 and then moved to 46 which is right next to 44.  We moved because site 46 actually angles into site 44 this way hoping no one would camp to close to us.
A little after 5:00 the people who were camped in one of the view sites showed up and left.  They had left there trailer in the site all day and then left at 5:00 p.m.  Rude on their part good for us, we moved into one of the front view sites, number 47.
This is site 47.
View form site 44, the first site we were in.
This is the view from our picnic table with the large metal cover to keep the sun off ME.

View to the right from the picnic table.

It is going to be warm here 85 to 95 during our stay.  Plan is to leave Sunday for Jacob’s Lake, Az or Sand Hollow State Park by Hurricane, Utah.

Lees Ferry National Monument – Saturday September 27, 2014

We have a new campsite.
Yes, I’m one of those people who will ask people who are leaving a GREAT site if I can have it when they leave.  This is one of the two end sites over looking the river.
We have had thunder storms off and on all day.  I did get out to take these two pictures.
Here is one of the river.
This guy and a girl used the site next to us to pack their boat yesterday.  They are going to be on the river for 21 days.  Between now and the end of October they are going to see a lot of weather changes.  We have been in rain storm for the last hour and I see no end in sight and it is still 83 degrees.

Lees Ferry National Monument – Friday September 26, 2014

We left Jacob Lake early because it was a Friday and I wanted to get to the campground early in the day.  It turned out to be the right thing to do.  We have been here twice before and this campground is usually empty, us and three or four other groups.  This year the place is 3/4 full.  Some people are here for a condor release on Saturday however most of the people just seem to be passing through.
We usually have one of the two campsites that directly over look the Colorado River, no such luck this year.

Here is the campsite with the traveling flamingos, in the tree.

We took the car and drove back out to Hwy 89 to take pictures of the Vermilion Cliffs and some of the rock that have fallen down off the cliffs.

I think these a over 2000 feet high.
This is a rock that rolled down from the cliffs a long time ago and the ground around it has eroded away.  The pickup belongs to a lady who is using the rock for shade to sell her jewelry.
This is a house which was built under one of these large rocks, great place to stay cool.
