After August 2017 furnace repair everything worked fine during our fall 2017 trip. Several times the furnace did not light until the third cycle but it always lit. That is until we got home.
It worked for a couple of days after we got home to the big house and than it wouldn’t light. I took the motorhome out to fill the propane tank and get gas. When I got home the furnace worked. Several days later I was taking the motorhome to Centralia to have all the cooling system hoses changed and it didn’t work. After the second trip to Centralia to get the brakes rebuilt the furnace worked and than worked all through Christmas. Having the furnace working during Christmas was a really good thing because we had temperatures in the 20’s and Hank spends a lot of time in the motorhome when we have company. After everyone left on December 27th I turned the furnace off and the next day it didn’t start again.
The fan runs , I can smell gas and hear the furnace spark cycle but it never actually lights.
When I had the furnace out in August I could not get the burner exhaust tube out of the furnace and thus could not get the burner out of the furnace. This time I went back to You-tube looking for more information on the furnace. I found a video that showed the exhaust tube was just setting in the furnace with a slip fit and that it was only rust which was holding the tube in place. I got some good gloves on (for the sharp edges on the tube) and started to work on the tube until I got it out.
I could then take the three screw out which hold the burner and electrode in place.
I am hoping that the corroded screen and the closeness to the electrodes is why the furnace will only work sometimes.
Here are some more pictures:
These three holes can be a challenge to get the screws into when the are 8 inches in a hole and on the opposite side to the propane value. I used masking tape to hold the screws onto the end of the nut driver.
Of course after I got these three screws in place the threads at the nut end of the screws were striped.
I used this spacer to move the screw further out of the hole so it would have some threads to tighten against the sheet metal.
1/7/2018 – After hooking up the propane I bleed the propane lines by lighting the kitchen stove burners and the furnace lit on the first lighting cycle. I have shut off and started the furnace several times this afternoon and it continues to light on the first cycle.
