Ruby Creek BLM Campground, Montana – Saturday June 22, 2024

I didn’t do much of anything today.  It was a rest day and I had planned to work on this website however Microsoft had different plans.  I don’t know if it’s my laptop/Windows or if Windows just needs a higher speed internet connection to work properly.  It actually started right up for a change (loading Windows) however it was over an hour before I could type anything into Word.  At the two hour mark I gave up.  I could type into Word but the text was printing on the screen with about a one word delay.  I should have disconnected from the internet to see if I got the same result.  If things go well today I may give that a try and/or wait until we get to Tri-Cities and try with a faster internet connection and no connection.

I am writing this on Chrome Docs and then hopefully be able to paste this into WordPress and harrylange.com later.

Writing on a Chromebook does take some getting used to, It does everything in a browser window and the touch pad is very sensitive.  My right thumb keeps touching the pad sending the curser all over the screen.  This Chromebook also has a touch screen and I have not used that feature very much.

Think I will try covering the touchpad with post it notes to keep my thumb off of it.

It is starting to get warmer and the mosquitos are starting to come out.  This evening I had 17 mosquitos on the window screen looking for a way in.  Everytime one of us went outside several mosquitos got into the coach.

Putting post it notes over the touchpad may solve my moving curser problem.

Today was fix the coach day.  Last week when we left Palisades the warning light on the leveling jacks did not turn off when the jacks were up.  I put the jacks back down and this time the warning light went when the jacks came up.  This usually means the fluid level in the reservoir is a little low.  The real down side to this warning light is the terrible beeping sound this system makes when the coach thinks it has the leveling gear are down.

I have everything I need, the transmission/hydralic fluid and the pump to get the fluid up into the reservoir. It took me a while to find the pump I wasn’t sure I had brought it. I remember seeing it in the basement at the Big House but I didn’t remember if I put it into the coach. I found it in the bottom of one of the tool boxes I have thus saving a trip to town in hopes of finding a pump.

It takes a little to do this job: A) have all the tools: 1) pull the slides in, 2) lower the coach off the leveling jacks, 3) put the large slide back out, 4) get under the coach and pump hydraulic fluid into the reservoir, 5) put the large slide back in and level the coach 6) put the slides back out.

When I releveled the coach I did get it back to level.

I am not always this lucky so I usually save a picture for the times I don’t get the coach level.

Today was winter weather day.

This picture wasn’t edited very well, the blue lines are for evening snow.

And yes we got the snow.

I think we ended up with 4 inches, it melted off fast and was mostly gone by noon on Tuesday.

The weather is warming up and it looks like I will get a few more days of fishing in before we leave June 24th for the Tri-Cities.

At least the water is coming down and is pretty clear.

Got to fish today, didn’t catch much but it was a really nice day to be on the river.

This afternoon I moved Starlink Dishy from the pole on the back of the coach to the picnic table. The weather forcast for Saturday is for winds 10 to 20 with gusts to 40. With the dish on the table if the wind does get really stiff it is much easier to put away from the table then handling the dish on a pole on the back of the coach.

The other day we got a software update for Starlink and now when the dish fires up every morning it goes to this flat position and then moves to it’s normal position facing north.

The other day I had ask Jean what these were for, she said they had something to do with fishing.
It took a couple of days but I finally figured it out.

They are to hold my rod and keys when I go fishing. My rod is held so it can not get stepped on and/or broken and I cannot lock my keys in the pickup by mistake. Laying the pickup keys down and then closing the pickup door before picking them up again can lead to a very long day.

At least the river is starting to point in the right direction, DOWN.

We have had a lot of sun between the thunderstorms and that does help to keep the batteries charged. This 120 watt solar panel will charge the batteries or if we are not drawing much of load from the batteries. We have four 6 volt AGM batteries wired in pairs to give us quite a bit of 12 volt storage. This trip we have had the Starlink on all day and it draws about 4.5 continuous amps. Every other day or so we need to run a generator to top off the batteries.

Our sunset.

Monday June 10, 2024 was moving day.  We moved 6 miles down the river back to Ruby Creek site 15 for the next 2 weeks.

This was an all day event.  At 9:00 a.m., I drove down to Ruby Creek to get a campsite, got one of the two sites we like the most.  There was actually only one other site in use (site 17, where we were two weeks ago) so I left a chair at site 15 and headed back to Palisades to get Jean, Marley and the coach.  The next stop was Ennis to dump, get water and groceries.  Back to Ruby Creek and we were all set by 4:25 p.m.

Nice sunny day and we are looking forward to nice weather for the next week.

The river is a little clearer down here as long as I stay above Ruby Creek.

This shows where the creek enters the river.

We have lots of company here. The last people left dog food in the fire pit. I’m pretty sure it will all be gone my tomorrow morning.

Here are some of the flower pictures I took the other day.  I think this is a Rocky Mountain Iris (Iris missouriensis).

In the WordPress editor all these pictures are right next to each other, it will be interesting to see if there is space between them when the post goes live. I have a lot to learn and/or relearn.

And here are a couple of more eagle pictures.

I found this picture while looking through the picture folders on this laptop.  I cry every time I look at it.

Sunday turned out to be a nice sunny day. (Edit – the evening turned into thunder storms passing through the valley, I took Starlink dish down because I didn’t want to take a chance of hail damaging it. “We” never got any hail but it sure rained HARD. )

Palisades BLM Campground, Montana – Sunday June 9, 2024

Figured out how to upload pictures to the WordPress media gallery for future use.  Now I can edit pictures on a Windows machine, upload to the WordPress gallery and hopefully add them to a post from a Chromebook..

Saturday afternoon I got my Cannon 60D out to take some flower pictures. Here are a couple a pictures I found on the camera, from 2020 I think.

I forgot to insert a Pagagraph between the first two pictures, Oh, well I eventually get it.

After a few flower pictures an eagle parked itself in a tree on the other side of the river.  I dug out my 500mm lens and took a bunch of pictures, here are a couple. Oh, yes – here is a picture of the eagle. I was going to upload several pictures but it looks I didn’t, I’ll add some more tomorrow and also some flower pictures. All the original pictures are on my Windows machine and it’s asleep.
