Home – Monday September 23, 2013

I didn’t close out vacation.

Saturday we drove 552 miles in 12.5 hours coming across Chinook Pass.  As a footnote Chinook pass should get some snow tonight.  We used only 303 gallons of gas. We usually use between 400 and 450 gallons when we venture out into eastern Utah and/or northern Arizona.
I know change is usually good, however Google has changed the structure of photo sharing again.  They want to force you to share through Google Plus and all I want to do is to allow sharing through a know link.  I found this link information last night and tonight I’ve looked to 5 minutes and still can not figure out how to find the albums URL.  I want to add the URL to this post so only people who have been to this blog can see the pictures.

4 minutes later, I found it.

Hopefully this is the link to a short photo album of our Fall 2013 vacation.

C J Strike Dam – Friday September 13, 2013

Today is the last day of the doing nothing part of vacation.  Tomorrow morning it is up at 6:00 a.m. and on the road by 6:30.  Should get home around 6:00 or 7:00 p.m.

Here is this evenings view,
I did not take view picture last night however here is a weather sat screen shot.
The blue area is where it is hailing.  The heavy stuff went mostly around us. We have had great vacation and it is back to work on Monday at 6:30 a.m.

C J Striker Dam, Idaho – Thursday September 12, 2013

Turned out to be a sunny day.  Big rain storm 6:30 a.m. to 8:00 and the rest of the day has been sunny with thunder storms way off in the distance.

Our view:
The dam taken during our morning walk.
This is the campground at the base of dam.
Oh, ya here is the walk.
This got my attention last night probably because of the Navy reunion I am going to next month.  So far 32 people say they are going.  This is group I was stationed with in DaNang from Oct 1971 – Nov 1972, ” a long time ago”.
I remember wanting to get out of the Navy because everything is structured and someone is ALWAYS telling you what to do.  Oh, and when to do it, how long you can do it, that they are better than you.  The air force has a recreation area right next to this park.  This is a sign posted on a very nice covered picnic area.
I can think of lot better ways of saying this.

C J Strike Dam, Idaho – Wednesday September 11, 2013

Moved north to get out of the rain.

Numbers for the day: drive time 13 hours, miles 616, left campsite at 6:30 a.m. arrived here at 7:45 p.m., 6 Hank pee stops, rained until 1:30 p.m., we are at North Shore site 18.

GPS:
I am here: 42 57.138 N 115 58.328 W http://maps.google.com/maps?q=loc:42.95231,-115.97214

2496 altitude.

Hoping for two dry days, we will drive home from here on Saturday.

Sand Hallow – Tuesday September 10, 2013

I’m setting out on the picnic table which has a nice sun cover.  It is doing a good job of keeping the rain off me and the table.
We have decided to move north tomorrow in hopes of finding sun.  The forecast for this area is clouds and rain for the next several days (including RIGHT now).  Going to C J Strike Dam south of Mountain Home, Idaho the weather forecast is at least more positive.

Sand Hallow State park, UT – Monday September 9, 2013

Short drive from Zion and we are in the open desert. THUNDER showers all afternoon raining hard right now.  All of southern Utah has flash warnings.

It’s warm and things are good.

Hope you are having a good day.

Forgot to mention we have four bars of 4g, I have never had 4g with this phone. At home we don’t have 4g so in keep it shut off because the phone just uses up battery looking for something I can not get.

Zion Natl Park – Sunday September 8, 2013

Today is our last day at Zion this year. We have used up our allotted 14 days.  We had rain several times today and it is raining right now.
I did get out and took several hundred pictures if flowers and little yellow birds.

It was a good day.

Second Post for the day:

This afternoon I went out and took some little bird pictures.  Here are few of the pictures I took today.

First, Tanya and my picture is still up in all the tram/buses:

A little closer
For the first time since we have been coming to Zion we had clouds.

Here are some of the little bird pictures.

A couple of bee pictures.
This is my flower patch.
And the End of the Day.
It’s Sunday, so have a Great week.

Zion Natl Park – Saturday September 7, 2013

Hank had a tough afternoon.

I think he stepped on a bee with his right hind paw.  He did the same thing last spring.  Starting hobbling his paw and licking it really hard.  This time I gave him a Benedryl and he did not go into as much distress as he did in the Spring.   In the Spring we packed up and headed to Hanks vet in Hurricane.  Yes, Hank has a vet in Hurricane.  A couple of years ago he started scratching and couldn’t seem to stop.  We found him a really nice vet who gave him a cortisone shot and it took care of the scratching.    Dogs and children.  In the Spring by the time we got to Hurricane he was doing much better we hung around town for a while and he was back to normal.  This time his paw REALLY hurt for about an hour and he started getting better.  After two hours he back to normal.

Jean wanted to play ball with him this evening.  She got a ball out of his basket and throw it into the bedroom.  He ran into the bedroom got the ball and put it back into his basket, guess he didn’t want to play.

Here’s another picture of the arch.

A couple of years ago when I got my new camera I also got 150 – 500 mm lens.  This picture was taken with the 500 mm.  It’s a great lens and I’ve been disappointed I have not had any  birds to take pictures of this year.

Had a thunder shower in the late morning right after Hank and I got back from our morning walk, went all the way to the junction but had to be back for Wait Wait.   Having some lightening this evening but not the projected rain storm.

I think we’ll go to Sand Hollow a Utah State Park on Monday.  It’s not to far from here by Hurricane, Utah don’t know where we’ll go from there.
